Healthy Banana Smoothie

10 Ice cubes

1 Frozen (or fresh) Banana
Milk
½ tsp Vanilla
¼ C Splenda or Sugar

This is a good recipe to use an overripe banana. I had put some in the freezer, which were getting too ripe so they would not spoil before I used them. First get out your blender and set it up. Add the 10 ice cubes to the bottom of the blender.

Take your banana out of the freezer. If it still has the skin on, put the banana under cold running water for a few seconds to soften the peel. Do not thaw the whole banana, just enough so you can cut the peel off with a knife. Cut the banana into chunks and add it to the blender.

Add enough milk to almost cover the ice. I just estimate and you can add more milk if the blender has trouble crushing the ice. Next, add the Splenda or sugar. Put the lid on the blender and turn it on ice crushing. If you don’t have this function, use the highest setting on your blender. Pulse it on an off at first, to get the blades moving, and see if you need more milk to make it work. Then keep blending until all the ice is crushed. You may have to stop a few times and stir with a spoon to get it moving if the ice gets stuck.

Once the ice is crushed, add the vanilla, then blend for another 30 seconds or so to blend it in. Now taste to see if you want more sweetener or not. If not, you’re done, just poor into a glass and enjoy!

This makes about 2.5 cups of smoothie. If you try this recipe, please comment below!

The Good, the Bad and the Great News of the Bible, Part 2

It has been awhile since I posted my article on the good news of the Bible, so before I move on to Part 2, let us review. In Part 1 I looked at what the good news of the Bible is: 1. According to the Bible, we are not accidents of chance, and the whole earth was made good. And 2. According to the Bible, God had a good reason for creating us! To read this post, go here.

In this post I will talk about the bad, often uncomfortable news of the Bible. Why is this necessary? It is often easier to see the good, when contrasted with the bad, like a bright star shining on the backdrop of a black sky. This will put the third part of this series, the "Great News" into perspective for you the reader. Thanks for asking!

The bad news is:
1. The earth is no longer good.
What happened? Why is the earth no longer good? Very good questions, the Bible gives us the answers:
Genesis 2: 16, 17
And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
You see, when God first created humans, this is the only command He gave them. Don't eat the fruit of that tree. Just one, nothing about stealing or lying or anything else... but the woman and man, the first humans broke that command.
Genesis 3:6
When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Unfortunately for us as humans, that is all it took, one broken commandment to make the earth less than perfect. Sinning, or breaking God's law, corrupts a person, as surely as a disease does, and that disease is passed down from parent to child. In just a few generations of the above incident, this is how God described the earth:
Genesis 6:5
The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.
Now, I understand that a lot of you reading this probably do not believe that you think about evil all the time, and can name good things that you have done just recently. But the Bible, for some reason, looks at this differently which is discussed more fully under the next point.

2. Only good people get into heaven, sinners are punished for their sin in Hell.
Romans 5: 12
Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned
Some may say, "Huh? That doesn't make sense; I thought you said this was BAD news? I'm a good person, so I don't have to worry about it." Oh, but it is. You see, the definition of 'good' is God's definition, not yours or mine. To show you what I mean, let's look at a couple other things the Bible says about humans on this planet.
Psalm 14:3
All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
And
Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
How can this be, when so many humans do so many good things, like give a friend a ride to work, or recycle? Let’s look at point number 3.

3. To find out if you are a good person in God's eyes you need to take the good person test.
A good measure of God's standard of 'good' is His ten commandments. These can be found in the Bible at Exodus, 20:1-17, click here to read the whole section. In this blog I will just pick a few for the good person test. Answer yes or no to the following questions:
a. Have you ever stolen anything, regardless of the value/size? Yes or No?
b. Have you ever told a lie? Yes or No?
c. Have you ever used "God," "Jesus," or "Christ," as a curse word? Yes or No?
d. Have you ever done anything to dishonor your parents? (Keep in mind if
you answered yes to a, b, or c, these actions would dishonor them) Yes or No?
e. Have you ever looked at another person not your spouse and lusted over them? Yes or No?

Let’s now on that same piece of paper, score your answers:
a. If you answered yes to this question, what do you call someone who steals? A thief, write this
next to letter a.
b. If you answered yes to this question, what do you call a person who lies? A liar, write this next
to question b.
c. If you answered yes to this question, what do you call a person who uses God's name as a curse
word? A blasphemer. Write this next to question c.
d. If you answered yes to this question, write "I've dishonored my parents" next to question d.
e. The Seventh of the Ten Commandments is "You shall not commit adultery." Jesus said, in
Matthew 5:28 "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has
already committed adultery with her in his heart." Therefore, if you answered yes
to this question write “adulterer at heart’ next to question e.
**If you would like to try a different version of the Good Person Test and see if you get a different result, you can go here**
Now, according to the Bible if you have broken one of God's Ten Commandments, you have broken them all. If you answered yes, to even one of the above questions, God no longer sees you as a good person, because you have broken his law.
James 2:10
For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
If you remember above, only good people get into heaven, the others, sadly, are destined for punishment for their sins in Hell. That is the very bad news of the Bible.
Romans 5: 12b
...and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned
If this bad news is distressing you now, I want to remind you there is still one part left to my series. I have still not written about the great news of the Bible. If you are angry, despairing or otherwise upset by this post, you will want to read my last entry, to find out what God did so you don't have to spend eternity in Hell. It is the Great News, the most important news, of the Bible.

The Good, the Bad and the Great News of the Bible, Part 1

I hope this series of blogs will be helpful to those who know about the Bible and those who want an overview of what the Bible story is all about. I will try to make it as clear as possible for both. I want to explain in these few blogs, that there is good, bad and great news in the Bible. Many of you are probably wondering, why not just skip to the great news? The short answer it, it is easier to appreciate something when you know you need it; it is easier to see what is "good news" when it is contrasted to the "bad news" like black letters against a white background. Please bare with me, thank you I appreciate it. I should also mention that these blogs are written from the stance that the Bible is a reliable source of truth about God, that is inerrant and infallible. I hope that if you have some type of strong reaction to my blog, whether good or bad you will pass it on, such as in email or stumble it! leave a comment and send others here to read it. Thank you!

1. According to the Bible, we are not accidents of chance, and the whole earth was made good.

Genesis 1:1
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Genesis 1:26-27
"Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.' God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."

According to the verses above, we are the exact opposite of a "cosmic accident." God created humans in His own image, and gave the human race jobs to do, ruling over creation (birds, cattle etc).
Genesis 1:31
"God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day."

According to the Bible verse above, when God first created the earth it was all very good! That is defiantly some good news from the Bible. All the bad that happens now (injustice, murder etc.) did not even exist back then, that means the earth at one time was completely good, according to God's standards! Wow, it must have been a great place to live! :-)

2. According to the Bible, God had a good reason for creating us!

The Westminster Shorter Catechism states:
Question. 1. What is the chief end of man?
Answer. Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever.

Chief end is referring to what a man is to have accomplished by the end of his life.
Isn't that interesting, God created human beings to glorify Him, and to enjoy him forever, that was and still is the plan on this "very good" earth when He first created it. Some Bible verses that support this are:
1Peter 4: 11
"Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."
and:
1 Corinthians 10:31
"Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
For more information on the "chief end of man" there is a great article here.
So what we have learned from part 1 is that some of the "good news" found in the Bible includes that we, as humans are not cosmic accidents, but were created on purpose by God, for specific reasons. God also created this whole world for us to tend and to live on. He created all the food, water, oxygen etc. to give us a wonderful place to live; and when God first created it all He called it "very good."
One of the reasons God created humans, often referred to as the "chief end of man," is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Could you imagine being so close to God, that you could enjoy His company forever? It can sound really far fetched in the world we know today. First we don't live forever! Unfortunately, that is were the bad news comes in. But don't forget, after the bad news, comes great news! So please keep reading, when I post part 2 "the bad news" in the Bible, and part 3, "the great news" in the Bible.

Kitchen Organization:Baking

Have you ever left out a important ingredient in a recipe and didn't realize it until you finish your creation? Yuk! You can organize so this doesn't happen to you again!

Have you ever left out an important ingredient out of a recipe and didn't realize it until you tasted the finished product? I have! One time I left the sugar out of a batch of muffins. Ick!! Since the muffin fiasco however, I have come up with 2 ways to organize my baking endeavors so that I will not forget ingredients, or (another problem) put the same ingredient in more than once!

1. Take out every single ingredient needed for the recipe before you start baking, and put these all together in the same location. If you don't have enough room on the counter sometimes a tray table or some other small table can be used for this purpose temporarily.
- After you measure each ingredient, put it away! This can also help keep your kitchen less cluttered while you are trying to bake. =)

2. Grab a dry erase marker and put your recipe in a clear plastic sleeve, or laminate your recipe. Now you will be able to cross off each ingredient, and cross off steps on your recipe as you complete each one, without permanently marking our recipe. Just wipe off the card when done baking.

Thanks for visiting my site! I hope these tips help you organize your kitchen baking project. Please leave your thoughts below. For more great tips on kitchen organization please be sure to visit the Works for Me Wednessday post at Rocks in my Dryer!

Poem

Two Different Tracks
Poem By: Me

Ziggity, Zaggity
Rail road track.
Certainly different
From the straight
And narrow path.
Ziggity, Zaggity
Rail road track.

Ziggity, Zaggity
Rail road track.
Wide and treacherous,
Lead you in circles,
And then right back.
Ziggity, Zaggity
Rail road track.

Strait and narrow
Rail road track.
Very different
From that zaggity path.
Straight and narrow
Rail road track.

Straight and narrow
Rail road track.
Never leading
Off its path.
Straight and narrow
Rail road track.

Which one will you choose?
The straight and narrow?
Or that ziggity, zaggity
Rail road track.

The straight and narrow
is my final choice.
For you just can't trust,
That ziggity, zaggity
Rail road track.

Thanks for reading my poem. Please feel free to leave your comments below, and have a great day!!

Alone

Poem by Me

I'm lonely
watching life go by.
I'm lonely
even with you near by.

I can't explain
why I feel this way,
Because I'm afraid
that you might walk away.

I'm just lonely.
